Access Network
Access, the Education Station is using the television medium to educate viewers.
With a facility located 15 minutes from downtown Edmonton, Access has the
resources and staff capable of producing a wide array of interesting programs.
Children's programming, movies, dramatic series, quiz shows, documentaries and
talk shows are some of the types of programs produced by the network. Access
works in partnership with Alberta Learning, thus much of the programming is
linked to formal courses of study accessible at the province's post secondary
institutions.
With up-to-date resources, the Access facility has produced many multimedia
learning programs. Many of the programs produced by Access are interactive,
allowing viewers to speak and gain direct information from professionals.
Television viewing is normally a passive activity, but Access allows viewers
to be actively involved in the experience and learn in an entertaining
environment. Help!TV, for example, is a program produced by Access and
addresses the concerns individuals face in every day life. With live experts
that viewers can contact via e-mail, phone or fax, the show connects people
with answers to pertinent questions. Careers T.V. is another program produced
through Access, and presents entertaining information about careers as
well as
the latest in business trends. Off the Beaten Path is a segment of the show
that features stories about unconventional Canadian jobs and has featured
a wildlife photographer, horse massage therapist and even sword swallower.
