Description: William Innes, assignee of Ira Leon Slawter, both of Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada, 12th April, 1921; 6 years. Filed 27th February, 1919. Receipt No. 305,942.

Claim.—1. A timer having means actuated in one direction by the compression of an engine and designed to automatically advance the spark, resilient means controlling the action of the said means in the opposite direction, and means for adjusting the resilient means.

2. A timer of the class described comprising a casing, a contacting member, a stem of conducting material, an insulating member surrounding the stem, a conducting sleeve surrounding the insulating material, the said stem and sleeve being designed to he moved outwardly when the pleasure in the cylinder exceeds a predetermined limit, resilient means for returning the member to its normal position, and means for adjusting the said resilient means.

4. A timer comprising a casing of conducting material formed in two portions threaded together, an adjusting nut having screw-threaded engagement with the end of one of the sections, a stem slidably operating in the casing, a sleeve of insulating material surrounding the stem, and an outer sleeve of conducting material surrounding the sleeve of insulating material and being slidably mounted within the casing, said conducting sleeve being provided intermediate of its length with a valve faced on both sides and the sleeve being formed with shoulders on the interior adapted to co-operate with the valve to prevent leakage of combustible fuel during the movement of the parts, a spring extending between the valve and the adjusting mechanism, an insulating washer secured to the top casing and a contact member carried by the washer adapted to engage with the sleeve of conducting material when the same has been moved out a determined distance, and a contact member extending adjacent to the end of the stem between which and the stem the spark is produced, all substantially as hereinafter set forth and described.
