Claim.—3. The combination in a furnace, of a retort positioned therein, a pipe leading from said retort, tanks communicating with said pipe, means for feeding minerals or the like into said retort, a plurality of compartments located below the retort and slides closing said compartments.
4. The combination in a furnace such as described, of a retort positioned therein, a hopper communicating with said retort, a perforated plate separating the hopper from the retort, a worm for feeding contents of the hopper through the perforated plate into the retort compartments located below the retort, slides closing said compartments, a pipe leading from said retort, and tanks communicating with the pipe.
5. The combination In a furnace such as described, including a firebox and an ash pit positioned there beneath, a retort positioned within the firebox, an hopper communicating with the retort, a perforated plate disposed between the hopper and the retort, means for feeding the contents of the hopper through the perforated plate into the retort, a pipe leading from the retort, outlet pipes connected thereto, compartments within the ash pit and communicating with the retort, slides separating the compartments, and hermetically sealing the same, and means for operating said slides.
