Fire Alarm (Patent No: 302219)

Inventor: Henry, Walter Francis

Location: Taber

Comments: N/A

Description: WHAT I CLAIM AS MY INVENTION IS:-

1. An automatic fire alarm comprising an electric circuit including an alarm, a lever switch operatively arranged in the circuit, and a coiled composite expansion member adapted to normally support the lever switch to retain the circuit open, said expansion member including metal of unequal expansion whereby said expansion member will expand through excess heat and release said switch to close the circuit.

2. An automatic fire alarm comprising an electric circuit including alarm mechanism therein, a lever switch adapted to open and close the circuit, positioned near a source of heat, a composite metal expansion member positioned near said source of heat and adapted to support said lever switch in normal position and retain said circuit open, said expansion member being formed of metals of unequal expansion whereby on excess heat the expansion member will move from normal position to release the switch, and means for resiliently mounting said expansion member in operative position.

3. An automatic fire alarm comprising an electric circuit including alarm mechanism, a lever switch operatively mounted in said circuit adapted to open and close the circuit, a composite expansion member adapted to be positioned near a source of heat and to support one end of said lever switch to retain the circuit open, a contact member connected in the circuit and positioned in the normal path of travel of said switch, said expansion member being formed of metals of unequal expansion whereby, on excess of heat, said expansion member will displace to release the switch and close the circuit, and means for adjusting the switch to operate at a predetermined temperature degree.

4. An automatic alarm comprising an electric circuit including alarm mechanism, a pivotally mounted lever switch in said circuit adapted to be positioned near a source of heat, a coiled composite expansion member adapted to be positioned heal said source of heat and to support one end of said switch in normal position, said expansion member being formed of metals of unequal expansion displaceable ',through excess heat to release the lever and close the circuit, a contact member in the circuit positioned in the path of travel of the switch, and means for longitudinally adjusting the lever switch to operate at a predetermined temperature degree.

5. The device as Claimed in Claim 4 in which means are provided on the lever switch to permit return of the switch to normal position.

6. An automatic alarm comprising a base plate, an alarm positioned on the plate and connected in circuit with a source of electrical energy, a lever switch pivotally mounted on the base plate, a coiled composite expansion member anchored on the plate adapted to support one end of said switch, a contact member on said plate positioned in the path of travel of said switch, a trigger formed on said switch for returning it to normal position, means for longitudinally adjusting the switch to operate at a predetermined temperature degree, and a casing for the plate adapted to be detachably secured thereto to cover said mechanism.

7. The device as claimed in Claim 6 in which the means for adjusting the switch comprise movable sections, one of said sections being slotted to move relatively to the other section, said other section being provided with securing means adapted to extend through said slot.

8. The device as claimed in Claim 6 in which the casing is orificed in the area above the expansion member and recessed to permit said trigger to extend therethrough.
