Rail Joint (Patent No: 302700)

Inventor: Halen, Per Olaf

Location: Margie

Comments: N/A

Description: 1. The combination with the meeting ends of rails of a base plate for reception of the rail ends provided with overlapping flanges engaging the base flanges of the rails and a pair of angle bars having the outer edges of their horizontal legs angled into interlocking engagement with the inner edges of the base flanges said engaging portions of the angle bars and base plates being provided with the aligned openings and the interposed flange of the gage side of the rail being provided with similar openings in alignment with the openings in the base plate and angle bars said openings in the rail flange being of a length in excess of the openings in the said base plate and angle bar to permit a limited expansion slip of the rail.
2. The combination with the meeting ends of rails of a base plate for receiving the rail ends provided with overlapping flanges engaging the base flanges of the rails and a pair of angle bars having their vertical legs shaped on their interior surfaces to conform with the fishing surfaces of the rails and provide a bearing for the heads thereof and having their horizontal legs angled into interlocking engagement with the inner edges of the base flanges said engaging portions of the angle bars and base plates being provided with aligned openings for the reception of looking spike the inner spikes for said device being arranged to engage the interposed rail flange.
3. The combination with the meeting ends of rails of a base plate for receiving the rail ends provided with overlapping flanges engaging the base flanges of the rails the upper inner edges of said flanges being squared with the upper surfaces of the flanges providing flat horizontal surfaces and a pair of angle bars having their interior surfaces conforming to the fishing angles of the rails and the outer edges of their horizontal legs angled into interlocking engagement with the angled edges of the base flanges, said engaging portions of the angle bars and base plates being provided with aligned openings for the reception of locking spikes, and the interposed flange of the gage side of the rail being provided with similar openings in alignment with the opening sin the said angle bars and base plate the openings in the said rail flange being dimensioned oversize to permit a limited expansion slip of the rails.
4. The combination with the meeting ends of rails of a base plate for receiving the rail ends provided with overlapping flanges engaging the base flanges of the rails, the upper inner edges of said flanges being squared with the upper surfaces of the flanges providing flat horizontal bearing surfaces and a pair of angle bars having their interior surfaces conforming to the fishing surfaces of the rails and the outer edges of their horizontal legs angled into interlocking engagement with the angled edges of the base flanges, said engaging portions of the outer angle bar and base plate being provided with a pair of uniformly disposed openings for the reception and engagement of a spike through on of such openings with a supporting tie, and the engaging portion of the inner angle bar and base plate being provided with a trio of aligned openings penetrating the interposed flange of the rail and adapted to receive locking spikes and arranged to permit a limited horizontal movement of the rail.
