Claim.—1. In a safety hitch. two members mounted for relative movement, means from one of said members co-operating with the other of said members adapted to yieldingly resist an outward relative movement thereof, a third members, and means fixed against longitudinal movement relative to one of said members co-operating with said third member and adapted to yieldably resist the movement thereof.

2. In a safety hitch, two members mounted for relative movement, means from one of said members co-operating with the other of said members adapted to yieldably resist the relative movement thereof means co-operating with said first-mentioned means adapted for varying the force with which the relative movement of said members is resisted, a third member, means fixed against longitudinal movement relative lo one of said members co-operating with said third member and adapted to yieldably resist the movement thereof, and means3 co-operating with said third member adapted to van' the force with which the movement of said third member is resisted.

3. In a safety hitch, two members mounted for relative movement and adapted for connection respectively, to a tractive machine and a drawn object, rotatable means in the path of one of said members adapted to be rotated thereby and elevating the same upon being rotated, and spring-actuated means co-operating with said last-mentioned member and yieldingly resisting the same upon being elevated by said rotatable means.
