Hand Drill Guide (Patent No: 354335)

Inventor: Bower, Gordon MacKenzie

Location: Edmonton

Comments: N/A

Description: What I do claim as my invention and desire to secure by letters patent is-

1. In a portable or hand drill a bracket rigidly but removably attached to the stem of the drill in parallel relation thereto, a threaded portion intermediate the ends of the said bracket stem for the accommodation of a screw nut thereon, a screw nut therefore with a roughened exterior surface, a squared portion thereon representing the lower extremity of the said bracket stem equipped at the bottom end with a threaded opening for the insertion of a screw bolt, a screw bolt therefore, a washer for said bolt, a sliding guide movably attached to the squared portion of the said bracket stem permitting upward and downward motion of said guide and preventing lateral movement thereof, a circular coiled spring for insertion over the squared portion of the said bracket stem intermediate of the said nut and the said sliding guide, all as described in the said specification.
2. In a portable or hand drill of the type described in claim 1, the combination of a bracket rigidly but removably attached to the stem of the said drill in parallel relation thereto, an approximately central portion of the stem of the said bracket being circular and equipped with threads, a circular nut inserted over the said threaded portion thereof, and with the stem of the said bracket equipped with a squared or other angularly shaped portion at the lower end of the stem of the said bracket, a sliding guide inserted over the lower portion of the said bracket stem in such manner as to prevent lateral movement on the said stem of the said guide, but to permit of up and down movement of the said guide in parallel relation to the stem of the said drill, and spring means inserted between the circular threaded portion of the said bracket stem and the upper end of the said guide, all as shown in the said specification.
3. In a portable or hand drill equipped with a bracket rigidly but removable attached in parallel relationship to the stem of the said drill, a sliding gripping guide inserted over a portion of the stem of the said bracket, assisted in its operation by spring means, fingers on said gripping guide which, during the operation of the said drill are located at opposite sides of the drill bit.
4. In a portable or hand drill a sliding guide operating in parallel relationship to the stem of the said drill, which guide is equipped with projecting fingers over which there may be inserted gripping collars or bands, gripping collars therefore, means for holding the said guide and the said gripping collars in tight relationship to the object being drilled, and means for preventing the said guide from slipping off the stem of the said bracket, all as set out in the said specification.
