Preserving Jar and Top Grinding Device (Patent No: 432918)

Inventor: Fleck, Otto

Location: Botha

Comments: N/A

Description:
Having regard to the foregoing disclosure, the patent of which this specification forms part confers, subject to the conditions prescribed in the Patent Act, 1935, the exclusive right, privilege and liberty of making, constructing, using, and vending to others to be used, the invention as defined in claims submitted by the patentee as follows:-

1. A device of the character described comprising a plate having a planiform top surface, an annular ring having a planiform lower edge portion adapted to be secured against the plate, and means for clamping the ring upon the plate.

2. The structure of claim 1, in which said plate is formed with a central opening of a diameter adapted to receive the crown portion of an inverted jar cap so that its outer flange portion may rest and be supported upon the plate, substantially as described.

3. The structure of claim 1, in which said plate is of a diameter exceeding that of jar caps to be ground, said plate having an annular opening therethrough, the diameter of which, and the intervening portion of said plate at one side between the ring and said opening is less than the diameter of the top or the like to be ground.

4. A combination tool comprising a plate having upper and lower planiform surfaces, an abrasive sheet clamping ring having a planiform lower edge, means to clamp the ring upon the plate, said ring being of a diameter related to the diameter of the work, said plate having a large opening therethrough concentric with the ring, the diameter of which plus the distance between the opening and the ring at one side is less than the diameter of the work, said opening being rabbeted on the under side of a diameter to receive the crown portion of the work free of contact with the plate, for the purposes described.

5. A device of the character described comprising a plate having a planiform top surface to serve as a stationary grinding table for support of an abrasive sheet, said plate being reversible to present the bottom side upwardly, said bottom side being formed with a central opening of a diameter adapted to receive the crown, portion of an inverted preserving jar so that its sealing flange may rest upon an abrasive sheet disposed upon said plate and around said central opening, and including a central rabbeted portion on the bottom side.

6. A plate having a planiform top surface to serve as a stationary grinding table for support of an abrasive sheet, said plate having a central portion countersunk so that the abrasive sheet will not to touch said center portion, said center portion being less in diameter than the inside diameter of the sealing face of the glass jar or top to be ground.

7. A plate having a planiform top surface to serve as a stationary grinding table for support of an abrasive sheet, said plate having an annular opening therethrough, said opening being less in diameter than the inside diameter of the sealing face of the glass jar or top to be ground.

8. A device of the character described comprising a plate having a planiform top surface to serve as a stationary grinding table for support of an abrasive sheet, said plate being reversible to present the bottom side upwardly at times, said bottom side being formed with a central rabbeted portion of a diameter adapted to receive the crown portion of an inverted jar top so that its outer flange may rest upon an abrasive sheet disposed upon said plate and around said central rabbeted portion.

9. A device of the character described comprising a plate having a planiform top surface, an annular ring having a planiform lower edge portion adapted to be secured against the plate, means for clamping the ring upon the plate, said plate being formed with a central opening of a diameter adapted to receive the crown portion of an inverted jar cap so that its outer flange portion may rest upon and be supported upon the plate, substantially as described.,

10. It device of the character described comprising a plate having a planiform top surface to serve as a stationary grinding table for support of an abrasive sheet, said plate being reversible to present the bottom side upwardly, said bottom side being formed with a central opening of a diameter adapted to receive the crown portion of an inverted jar cap so that its outer flange may rest upon an abrasive sheet disposed upon said plate and around said central opening.

11. A device of the character described comprising a plate having a planiform top surface to serve as a stationary grinding table for support of an abrasive sheet, said plate being reversible to present the bottom. side upwardly, said bottom side being formed with a central opening of a diameter adapted to receive the crown portion of an inverted jar cap, said opening having an inclined circumferential surface, whereby the outer flange of a jar cap will rest upon said surface for testing of said cap.

12. A device for trueing the sealing edges of preserving jars and tops comprising a plate having a plan1form top surface to serve as a stationary grinding table for support of an abrasive sheet and means for clamping the sheet an the plate.
