Description: Having regard to the foregoing disclosure, the patent of which this specification forms part confers, subject to the conditions prescribed in the Patent Act, 1935, the exclusive right, privilege and liberty of making, constructing, using, and vending to others to be used, the invention as defined in claims submitted by the patentee as follows:-

1. A draft regulating device for the locomotive and other boilers and their fireboxes comprising in combination, balanced link-connected draft shutters within the draft passageways of the boiler or its firebox, axle mountings for said shutters, lever and rod means for reciprocatively operating said shutter device, a pneumatically or steam operated cylinder piston unit to pivotally swing said shutters through said rod for draft regulation, adjustable weight and lever means on one of said axles to maintain open draft passage positions of said shutters in opposition to said closing means, a piston-cylinder port control unit operated by steam or air pressure to regulate the operation of said shutter control unit, foot pedal lever and spring means connecting with said port control unit to reciprocate port control pistons within said unit, such lever and spring means being adapted and adjusted to operate coincidently with the firebox door opening and closing mechanism to dampen the draft during the open door period and an adjusting screw to set the tension of said spring means.

2. A draft regulator for boilers and their fireboxes comprising in combination pivoted link-connected draft shutters axle mounted within a draft passageway of the boiler or on an ashpan of the same, a connecting rod and means by piston cylinder unit to reciprocate said rod for closing and opening said shutters for draft regulation, means by a pedal controlled cylinder-piston unit governing control ports for steam or air pre secure for operating said piston-cylinder rod reciprocating unit, a pressure driven piston-cylinder port control unit placed intermediate said pedal controlled unit and said rod reciprocating unit to operate at a predetermined steam pressure in the boiler to activate said rod reciprocating unit, a compressed air or steam chamber within this intermediate unit, a valve controlled air or steam inlet aperture to said chamber, an outlet port valve tram said chamber leading to said rod reciprocating unit, a piston to control said outlet port, a piston rod and guide piston within said intermediate unit together with a steam driven piston to slidably operate these two said pistons, a valvular and spring controlled means to activate said steam driven piston at less than "blow off" steam pressure from the boiler for the operation at this intermediate unit for automatic regulation of draft to maintain normal boiler pressure, an adjustable spring to return these three pistons when steam an is shut off from this intermediate unit, and an exhaust aperture for release of steam operating this unit.

3. A draft regulating device for boilers and their fireboxes comprising in combination link-connected draft shutters pivotally suspended within the draft passageway of said boilers or fireboxes, lever and rod means with counterbalance weight for opening and closing said shutters in the draft passageways, a pneumatically or steam operated cylinder-piston unit to pivotally swing said shutters through said rod for draft regulation, a piston-cylinder port control unit operated by air or steam pressure to regulate the operation of said shutter control unit, a steam or air pressure intake aperture in this port control unit communicating with each end of the working cylinder of a mechanical stoker to synchronously operate the said port control pistons in this unit with the fuel feeding stroke of the stoke, and an adjusting screw and spring to return said control pistons to normal position on the return stroke of the piston in said stoker.

A draft regulating device for boilers and their fireboxes comprising in combination, link-connected draft shutters within the passageways of the boiler or its firebox, axle mountings for said shutters, lever and rod means for reciprocally operating said shutter device, a shutter control cylinder-piston unit operating under reduced boiler or air system pressure to close said shutters, a pressure reducing valve in the steam or air pressure pipe line communicating with the said cylinder-piston unit to assist in opening said shutters on valvular release of the closing pressure means, a cylinder-piston port control unit operated by steam of air pressure to regulate the operation of said shutter control unit, a foot pedal lever and spring means, or pressure communicating means from a mechanical stoker, connecting with said port control unit to operate port control pistons within said unit for the operation of said shutter control unit, and an indicator to show shutter closing pressure in said shutter control unit.
5. Draft regulating devices for boilers and their fireboxes comprising in combination, shutters swingable within draft passageways of said boiler or firebox, means by a reduced steam or air operated prime mover unit to regulate closing and opening of said passageways by said shutters to respectively shut off and maintain the draft flow therethrough, means to control at reduced steam or air pressure the draft closing movement of said shutter regulating unit, means at reduced steam or air system pressure to open draft passageways by reversing the closing movement of the said unit, means to operate by steam or air pressure the said prime mover unit by foot pedal control and through piston controlled ports and leads dependent thereon, means to operate interchangeably through the said unit automatically by steam pressure at a predetermined boiler pressure through steam governor action, and means to operate the said prime mover unit by low steam or air system pressure from a mechanical stoker on the fuel feeding stroke of same, said prime mover control means being selective at the will of the operator with the exception of the said automatic means.

A draft regulating device for a boiler and firebox comprising in combination pivotally mounted draft shutters swingable over draft openings in the walls of the ashpan of said firebox, a connecting rod and spring means to lower and raise said shutters for the respective closing and opening of said ashpan draft openings, all operated by the prime mover unit as set forth in claim 5 only when reference therein is made to the operation of the said prime mover unit through its connection with the mechanical stoker.
