Conveyers (Patent No: 521031)

Inventor: Coutts Machinery Co. Ltd (assignee)

Location: Edmonton

Comments: N/A

Description: Thomas H. Coutts, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, assignor to Coutts Machinery Co. Ltd, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Application May 5, 1952, Serial No. 630,654.
3 Claims.

1. A conveyor for grain or the like comprising to combination a supporting undercarriage; a pair of enclosed auger assemblies mounted on the undercarriage for vertical angular elevation, such auger assemblies overlapped at adjacent ends and arranged to transfer material at the said overlapped ends from one auger assembly to the other auger assembly; a connection between the auger assemblies maintaining such assemblies in constant angular relationship; means for actuating the said auger assemblies coincidentally comprising a suitable power source; gearing in association with each of the overlapped ends of the auger assemblies, such gearing interconnected for simultaneous movement and a connection from such gearing to the said power source; and means for elevating the conveyor angularly vertically comprising hydraulic mechanisms connected pivotally at one end to the supporting undercarriage and arranged at the other end to travel longitudinally along the conveyor and support the conveyor throughout such longitudinal travel.

2. A conveyor for grain or the like comprising in combination a supporting undercarriage; a pair of enclosed auger assemblies mounted on the said undercarriage for vertical angular elevation, such auger assemblies overlapped at adjacent ends and adapted to transfer material at the. said overlapped ends from one auger assembly to the other auger assembly; a connection between the said auger assemblies maintaining such assemblies in constant angular relationship; means for actuating the said auger assemblies coincidentally and means for elevating the said conveyor angularly vertically comprising a tubular body closed at its lower end and adapted at its lower end for pivotal connection on the said undercarriage of the said conveyor; a closure substantially intermediate the length of the said tubular body to define a lower hydraulic fluid chamber and an upper piston chamber; a piston operating within the said piston chamber, such piston having a piston rod projecting past the upper end of the said piston chamber; roller means mounted freely at the upper end of the said piston rod, such roller means adapted to travel longitudinally along the said conveyor; a channel through the said intermediate closure leading from the said hydraulic fluid chamber to the said piston chamber; a spring-loaded ball valve for closing the said channel at the said hydraulic fluid chamber; a second spring-loaded ball valve for closing the said channel at the said piston chamber; hand manipulated hydraulic fluid pumping means adapted to selectively withdraw hydraulic fluid from the said hydraulic fluid chamber and to pump such fluid into the said piston chamber.

3. A conveyor as claimed in Claim 2, wherein the means for actuating the said auger assemblies coincidentally comprises gearing in association with each of the overlapped ends of each auger assembly, such gearing interconnected for simultaneous movement and a connection from one of such set of gears to a suitable power source.
