Engine Preheater

Wellington L. Warner, Eaglesham, Alberta, Canada Application June 12, 1953. Serial No. 649,254 5 Claims

1. In a preheater for an internal combustion engine, the combination which comprises a tube for use in a section of a water jacket of an engine, a burner housing extended from one end of said tube, a fuel control head extended from one end of the burner housing, a starting nozzle mounted in the control head and positioned to discharge fuel into the burner housing, a continuous nozzle also carried by the control head and positioned to discharge into the burner bousing, a tubular coil positioned in the burner housing and connected to the control head, a fuel tank upon which said control head is mounted, said control head having fuel and air passages communicating with the interior of the fuel tank and extending there-through, and means in the control head for regulating said passages whereby fuel is supplied to the starting nozzle and also to the continuous nozzle.

2. In a preheater for an internal combustion engine, the combination which comprises a tube for use in a section of a water jacket of an engine, a burner housing extended from one end of said tube, a fuel control head extended from one end of the burner housing, a starting nozzle mounted in the control head and positioned to discharge fuel into the burner housing, a continuous nozzle also carried by the control head and positioned to discharge into the burner housing, a tubular coil positioned in the burner housing and connected to the control head, a fuel tank upon which said control head is mounted, said control head having fuel and air passages communicating with the interior of the fuel tank and extending there-through, means in the control head for regulating said passages whereby fuel is supplied to the starting nozzle and also to the continuous nozzle, and means providing a spark in the burner housing.

3. In a preheater for an internal combustion engine, the combination which comprises a tube for use in a section of a water jacket of an engine, a burner housing extended from one end of said tube, a fuel control head extended from one end of the burner housing, a starting nozzle mounted in the control head and positioned to discharge fuel into the burner housing, a continuous nozzle also carried by the control head and positioned to discharge into the burner housing, a tubular coil positioned in the burner housing and connected to the control head, a fuel tank upon which said control head is mounted, said control head having fuel and air passages communicating with the interior of the fuel tank and extending therethrough, means in the control head for regulating said passages whereby fuel is supplied to the starting nozzle and also to the continuous nozzle, and means actuated by the pressure of the fuel passing through the control head for providing intermittent spark in said burner housing.

4. In a blow torch, the combination which comprises a control head having passages extended therethrough, a plunger slidably mounted in said control head and positioned to, selectively, open and close passages therein, starting and continuously operating nozzles mounted in said control head, a tube coil extended from said control head with the ends of the coil connected to the control head and communicating with passages therein, a fuel tank, means for mounting the control head on the fuel tank, said control head and fuel tank having communicating passages whereby fuel from the lower part of the tank is injected into the control head and air from the upper part of the tank is also injected into the control head, means actuated by pressure of the fuel whereby fuel and air are admitted to the starting nozzle and continuously burning nozzle, selectively, and a burner housing surrounding said tube coil.
