4 Claims.

1. In a thawing device for a culvert and the like, a heating element adapted to be passed through the culvert, clamps attachable to the culvert at opposite ends thereof and having means for detachably securing the heating element therebetween, projecting leads at each end of the heating element connectible to a source of electrical energy.

2. In a thawing device for a culvert and the like, a heating element adapted to be passed through the culvert, clamps for attachment to the culvert at opposite ends thereof, each comprising a "U" shaped member, a bolt through one arm of the "U" shaped member to engage with the outside of the culvert, a bolt through the other arm of the "U" shaped member to engage with the inside of the culvert and adapted to secure the heating element between the bolt and the arm of the "U" shaped member, projecting leads at each end of the heating element connectible to a source of electrical energy.

3. In a thawing device for a culvert and the like, a heating element adapted to be passed through the culvert, electrically insulated clamps attached to the culvert at opposite ends thereof and having means for detachably securing the heating element therebetween, projecting leads at each end of the heating element connectible to a source of electrical energy.

4. The thawing device as claimed in Claim 3, wherein the electrically insulated clamps each comprise a first insulating member adapted to engage with one side of the culvert and extend through the culvert to terminate on the opposite side of the culvert, a second insulating member adapted to engage with the opposite side of the culvert and to fit over the termination of the first member, a locking bolt having a lateral aperture adapted to receive the heating element adjacent one end thereof and a threaded opposite end, the said bolt extending through the first and second members with the apertured end thereof below the members inside the culvert and the threaded opposite end above the members outside the culvert, a nut engageable on the threaded end of the bolt and adapted on rotation to draw the bolt into the member.
