The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. Shoring apparatus for the walls of trenches comprising opposed elongated shoring members, such members being capable of lateral distension under pressure to conform to irregularities in the walls of the trench, a plurality of hydraulic cylinders connected to the shoring members to extend between the members, removable handle means at the upper ends of the shoring members for depositing the shoring members and the plurality of hydraulic cylinders in a trench and for moving the members and hydraulic cylinders along a trench and power means arranged to expand and contract the hydraulic cylinders to move the shoring members into and out of contact with the walls of the trench.

2. Shoring apparatus for the walls of trenches comprising opposed elongated shoring members, such members being sufficiently pliant to be distended into conformation with irregularities in the walls of the trench, a plurality of shoes fastened rigidly to the shoring members, a plurality of hydraulic cylinders connected pivotally to the shoes to extend between the shoring members, removable handle means at the upper ends of the shoring members arranged to be grasped to deposit the members and the plurality .of hydraulic cylinders in a trench, and power means arranged to expand and contract tile .hydraulic cylinders to move the shoring members and distend the shoring members into conformity with the walls of the trench.

3. The shoring apparatus as claimed in Claims 1 and 2 wherein the handle means includes brackets fastened to the ends of the shoring members to extend upwardly from the members and having apertures through the brackets and lifting means insertable through the apertures in the brackets to extend between the shoring members and on opposite sides of the members.
