Container Mouth Structure and Closure Means for Plastic Fluid Containers (Patent No: 717827)

Inventor: Fabbi, Romeo S.

Location: Lethbridge

Comments: N/A

Description:
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

(1) In a plastic fluid container, in combination, closure-means, and a container mouth structure adapted for use therewith in the closing of said mouth structure, said mouth structure being annular and embodying (a) a thin annular flange projecting outwardly from said mouth structure, the angle of inclination of said flange relative to the plane of said mouth structure being within ten degrees, and (b) a collar co-terminus at its upper edge with the inner edge of said flange, at least the outer surface of said collar being substantially at right angles to the under-surface of said flange to provide an annular re-entrant recess for said c1osure means, said closure-means embodying a sheet of readily deformable material overlying said mouth structure including said flange, being circumferentially edge-bent over, around, and under the outer edge of said flange so that the material so bent lies within said recess.

(2) The flange according to Claim 1 which is planar and lies parallel with the plane of said orifice.

(3) The invention according to Claim 1 in which said mouth structure also includes an annular shoulder co-terminus with and projecting inwardly from the lower edge of said collar.

(4) The invention according to Claim 1 in which said mouth structure also includes an annular shoulder co-terminus with and projecting inwardly from the lower edge of said collar, and in which said flange is planar and lies parallel with the plane of said orifice.

(5) In a plastic fluid container, for use in combination with closure means, a container-mouth structure adapted for use therewith, said structure being annular and embodying (a) a thin annular flange projecting outwardly from said mouth structure, the angle of inclination of said flange relative to the plane of the orifice of said mouth structure being within ten degrees, (b) a collar co-terminus at its upper edge with the inner edge of said flange, at least the outer surface of said collar being substantially at right angles to the under surface of said flange to provide an annular re-entrant recess.

(6) The invention according to Claim 5 in which said mouth structure also includes an annular shoulder co-terminus with and projecting inwardly from the lower edge of said collar.

(7) The flange according to Claim 5 which is planar and lies parallel with the plane of said orifice.

(8) The invention according to Claim 5 in which said flange is wider than said collar.

(9) The invention according to Claim 6 in which said flange is wider than said collar.

(10) In a plastic fluid container, in combination, a c1osure-means and a container-mouth structure adapted for use therewith in the closing of said mouth structure, said closure means consisting of a cap embodying a central discoid portion, and an upwardly projecting, inferiorly and annularly cavitated flange-receiving rim-portion, said mouth structure being annular and embodying (a) a thin, annular flange projecting outwardly from said mouth structure, said flange being of a width such as will be snugly receivable within said rim-portion, the upper surface of said flange and an inner annular portion of said rim-process being in interfacial relationship.

(11) The flange according to Claim 10 which is planar and lies parallel with the plane of said orifice.

(12) The invention according to Claim 10 in which said mouth structure also includes an annular shoulder co-terminus with and projecting inwardly from the lower edge of said collar the under surface of the perimeter of said discoid portion of said cap being engagable with said shoulder.
