Pre-Fabricated Wall Panels (Patent No: 959622)

Inventor: Weed, Gehres D.

Location: Edmonton

Comments: N/A

Description: The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive property or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:

1. A pre-fabricated wall panel comprising, two planar boards disposed coterminously in a spaced parallel relation with a predetermined width of space between them, a stud member mounted within said space and disposed at a short distance from a vertical side edge of said panel to form a channel in said vertical side edge, an elongated nesting means secured on said stud member within said channel wherein one side of said nesting means being spaced from one side wall of said channel forming a first groove within said channel, said first groove having a width substantially equal to the thickness of each of said planar boards, and a second side of said nesting means being spaced from the other side wall of said channel forming a second groove within said channel, said second groove having a width substantially equal to the width of said nesting means and a deformable semi-rigid membrane disposed on a front surface of said nesting means.

2. A pre-fabricated wall panel according to claim 1 in which said nesting means has a substantially rectangular cross-section.

3. A pre-fabricated wall panel according to claim 1 in which said nesting means is a rectangular strip extending throughout the entire length of said vertical side edge of the panel.

4. A pre-fabricated wall panel according to claim 3 in which said nesting means includes bevelled corners to facilitate interlocking engagement between adjacent panels.

5. A pre-fabricated wall panel according to claim 4 in which said nesting means is disposed within the channel to protect said nesting means and said semi-rigid membrane from any accidental damage during handling.

6. A pre-fabricated wall panel according to claim 1, 2 or 5 in which said semi-rigid membrane has a width slightly larger than the width of the front surface of said nesting means.

7. In a wall construction including at least two adjacent pre-fabricated wall panels interfitting side by side over one of their vertical side edges in an alternate offset manner to form a weather-tight vapour seal joint therein, each of said pre-fabricated wall panels comprising: a first planar board and a second planar board secured together coterminously in a spaced parallel relation with a predetermined width of space between them; a first stud member mounted within said space and located at a short distance in one vertical side edge of the panel forming a first channel therein; a second stud member mounted within said space and located at a short distance in an opposite vertical side edge of the panel forming a second channel therein; a first elongated nesting strip having a substantially rectangular cross section and bevelled front edges and being secured on said first stud member, said first elongated nesting strip having one side spaced from one side wall of said first channel, said side wall being formed by an edge portion of said first planar board, forming a first groove therebetween having a width substantially equal to the thickness of said second planar board; said first elongated nesting strip having a second side spaced from the other side wall of said first channel, said other side wall being formed by an edge portion of said second planar board, forming a second groove there-between having a width substantially equal to the width of said second nesting strip; a second nesting strip having a substantially rectangular cross-section and bevelled front edges and being secured on said second stud member; said second nesting strip having one side spaced from one side wall of said second channel, said side wall being formed by an edge portion of said second planar board, forming a first groove therebetween having a width substantially equal to the thickness of said first planar board; said second nesting strip having a second side spaced from the other side wall of said second channel, said other side wall being formed by an edge portion of said first planar board, forming a second groove therebetween having a width substantially equal to the width of said first nesting strip; a deformable semi-rigid first membrane disposed on a front surface of said first nesting strip, said first membrane having a width slightly larger than the width of said first nesting strip; a deformable semi-rigid second membrane disposed on a front surface of said second nesting strip, said second membrane having a width slightly larger than the width of said second nesting strip.

8. A pre-fabricated wall panel according to claim 7 wherein said first membrane and said second membrane are paper sheets.

9. A pre-fabricated wall panel according to claim 7 wherein said first membrane and said second membrane are plastic sheets.

10. A pre-fabricated wall panel according to claim 7 wherein said first membrane and said second membrane are metal sheets.
