[57] A dipper tooth assembly comprising an adapter having a forwardly extending tang provided with a transverse hole extending through the tang, replaceable tooth provided with a transverse hole extending through the tooth, said tooth being engageable on the tang so that the rear-most surface of the tang hole and the rear-most surface of the tooth hole are relatively off-set in alignment in the longitudinal direction of the tooth, a solid retainer pin to retain said tooth in releasable engagement on the tang, said retainer pin being fabricated of a suitable resilient material and being of generally elongate form having two ends laterally off-set in said longitudinal direction from a central portion of the pin, each of said off-set ends having a bearing surface on one side, said central portion having an opposed bearing surface on the opposite side of the pin, all of said bearing surfaces extending generally parallel to the length of the pin, said pin being insertable through said tooth and tang holes such that at least one of said bearing surfaces bears against the rearmost surface of the tooth hole and at least another of said bearing surfaces bears against the forward-most surface of the tang hole to retain said tooth on said tang.
