John Janzen Nature Centre

John Janzen LogoHave you ever wondered how a beaver builds its dam, or how a spider spins its web? Well, the folks at the John Janzen Nature Centre know the answer to these questions and more! Located in the heart of Edmonton's River Valley, this nature centre has lots to offer for both kids and adults interested in how nature works.

Kids and amphibians at the John Janzen Nature Centre The John Janzen Nature Centre is a wonderful place for kids. It offers all kinds of programs year-round that will almost entirely satisfy their inquisitive nature. Classes on everything from "Butterfly Frolic" to "This Ark called Earth" will keep kids tantalized and interested in the nature around them. Both kids and adults alike will gain a new respect for Mother Earth through programs that teach about the arrival of spring and recycling. And who doesn't love baby animals? At the Nature Centre, you can get the opportunity to see and touch baby bunnies, chicks, and even baby bugs!

Outside of the John Janzen Nature Centre But the John Janzen Nature Centre offers much more than year-round classes. If you have any questions about anything related to nature - bird migrations, plant identification - you can just phone and one of their Naturalists will be more than happy to help you with your question.

More frogs at the John Jenzen Centre If you are the more adventurous type, you can walk four kilometers of nature trails on a self-guided interpretive tour. Or, if you just feel like being indoors you can check out the new exhibit room where you can visit the small animals living there. The John Janzen Nature Centre also has a living, working beehive that you can safely observe and learn all about the complex world of those fuzzy, honey-making insects.

To contact the John Janzen Nature Centre call (780) 496-2910. If you have any nature questions, you can contact a Naturalist on Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the wintertime, and Monday through Friday during the summertime at (780) 496-4701. They are located next to Fort Edmonton Park at the corner of Fox Drive and Whitemud Drive. For more information and class listings, visit the John Janzen Nature Centre website.
