Ralph Erdman was born in Barons in 1913. He completed his
elementary and high school at the Barons Consolidated School. He
was awarded his Diploma in Agriculture form the Claresholm School
of Agriculture in 1930. He also received his B.Sc. in Agriculture
from the University of Alberta in 1936. Erdman then earned his M.
Sc. In 1938. He worked with the Soils Department of the University
of Alberta for 10 years. In 1947 he became the Soil Specialist for
the University of Lethbridge Experimental farm. Ralph Erdman was
also the Assessor for the M.D. of Willow Creek, Claresholm. He
moved to Lethbridge in 1951. He was interested in exhibiting grain
at many different shows in 1956. In 1956 and again in 1957, Erdman
won the Reserve Championship for in wheat in the Chicago
International Exposition, when he brought samples of durum wheat.
In 1961, he was honored with winning the World's Wheat Grand
Championship at the Toronto Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, when
once again he brought a sample of his prized Stewart Durum wheat
weighing 68 pounds to the bushel.
