Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF)

This section feRoyal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Pilot Officer Al Boehmatures the first hand accounts of a handful of Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) personnel who trained in Alberta under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BCATP). 

Included are stories by Edward Bryce Chase and Stan Reynolds, who tell tales of nights on guard duty; by Gordon Diller, who recounts the ins and outs of wireless training; from E.S. Marshall who tells of a tragic search and rescue operation; and Doug Warren, who takes us through the routine at both an Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS) and a Service Flying Training School (SFTS). The experiences of Alexander Shand are told Bill Dickinson, Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) on guard duty at Penhold, Alberta.by his granddaughter Nadia, while Jim Northrup explains life at No. 3 SFTS in Calgary. In a unique account, Herbert Padwick explains the challenges of improving maintenance efficiency at bases across Canada, while Robert Tipper describes the day-to-day activities of training.
