Telephone Era in Alberta >>
Technology >> The Network
Ever since 1885, when the first telephone line was placed between
Edmonton and St. Albert, Alberta’s telephone system has been
expanding to reach even the smallest of communities. The system has
evolved over the years and adapted to the rapidly changing
technologies to help make communication by telephone as efficient
and clear as possible to millions of Albertans.
Over the years, the system has grown into a massive network that
spans across thousands of kilometres of forest and prairie land,
often running over mountains and under water.
