Institutions and Associations

Over the years, the Franco-Albertan community will maintain the survival and ensure the development of the French language and culture by creating a variety of organizations and institutions. During the early days, these organizations were often copies of what existed in Quebec. However, the associations will quickly take on a western flavor and attitude since the Franco-Albertan community will develop its own identity from early on. Some of the associations such as l’Association Saint-Jean-Baptiste (1894) and l’Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta (ACFA- 1926) had political goals while others were developed to advance the objectives of the community in various fields such as education agriculture, radio broadcasting services etc.. Several important institutions were also developed in order to meet the educational needs of the community : the Juniorat (Collège-Faculté) Saint-Jean (1908), the Collège des Jésuites (1913) and l’Académie Assomption (1926).

This section presents many archival documents pertaining to :  l’Association Saint-Jean-Baptiste, l’Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta (ACFA), l’Association des instituteurs bilingues de l’Alberta  (AEBA), l’Académie Assomption, le Collège des Jésuites, le Juniorat (Collège, Faculté) Saint-Jean and CHFA.
